Properties and benefits 2-K MS-Polymer

The main advantage of a 2-K MS polymer sealant over a one-part component sealant is that the product does not depend on the surrounding temperature and humidity to cure.

The majority of one-part component sealants are water or solvent based material and requires the surrounding temperature and humidity to cure, therefore application can be restricted.

Depending on the quality of the material and due to the nature of a one-part component system, the adhesion and elasticity can change as the water or solvents evaporate. Such products will show a certain percentage of shrinkage, even after curing. The curing speed of these products is also affected due to the ambient temperature and humidity.

The curing speed mentioned on most technical data sheets resembles the average curing speed of very thinly applied sealants that are in direct contact with air (humidity). When applying deep, thick layers of one-part component sealants the curing rate (humidity hardening), under normal circumstances, will equate to about 4mm during the first 24 hours. However, if you were to measure the curing rate over the next 24 hours, this will not result in a curing of 8mm in total but will be significantly less. With the increase in thickness of the sealant the curing speed significantly slows down. This is due to the fact that the necessary humidity in the surrounding area will have more difficulty penetrating through the cured surface. This is considered to be an important limitation of one-part component sealants in deep joints.

With the arrival of the new Hybrifix-2K/Hercuseal 2K-Sealer 250FC such applications can be carried out with ease.

The product is supplied in a "peeler-cartridge" which can be used easily with any professional standard sealant gun (hand, electric and air pressured). The curing mechanism of this new, unique two part sealant does not depend on humidity to cure and therefore increases the application possibilities over the standard one-part component sealant.

 

For instance, take the application between non-porous materials. Plate material in the construction sector and automotive industry can now be sealed both perfectly and fast. The curing of the Hybrifix-2K/Hercuseal 2K-Sealer 250FC will take about 4 hours, no matter what the layer thickness or circumstances are. Also "full surfaced gluing" is possible with the two-part component sealant, something which the one-part component sealants are not suitable for.

 

During repair and renovation work it is advantageous for the sealant to cure fast, which obviously will increase productivity. An example of this would be in the renovation work of dilatation joints in floors and galleries. Usually there will be a lot of activity around and on these joints, due to people walking or driving over them so a quick cure system is essential to avoid potential delays. With the one-part component sealants the curing process will be much slower and will force you to close the area of repair.

 

Another example is in the automotive industry where the curing speed of sealants and glues is of high importance especially when doing repair work. A damaged car/truck will have to be ready as soon as possible. When using such two-part component sealant the waiting times will be significantly less.

 

The application area of the new Hybrifix-2K/Hercuseal 2K-Sealer 250FC therefore is extremely wide. The wide spectrum of adhesion, in combination with a very fast curing speed makes this product very unique!
